MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES AT
WOODLAND . . .

HOPE MOBILE OUTREACH PROGRAM

hopeSometime those who need the HOPE Center the most are not at the HOPE Center. But they rely on the Mobile Outreach Team for this help. The HOPE Mobile operates from a custom motor home parked at a different downtown church location each weekday. Homeless men, women, and children are able to this program to find the help and hope they need to get back on their feet.

Each Tuesday morning from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm, the HOPE Mobile is parked in the back church lot for those who need their help. Woodland's outreach ministry is to provide sandwiches which consist of bread, meat, and cheese (NO CONDIMENTS) and wrapped individually for easy handout.

habitat

Disciples for Habitat will begin work on their 34th house beginning the week after Memorial Day. The home is for Brenda Flores and her two sons at 1785 Russell Cave Road in Lexington.

brenda
After living in Lexington for the past 13 years, Brenda's sister encouraged her to consider Habitat for Humanity to achieve her dream of homeownership. The thought of eing able to buy a home has left her excited, as shared, "I can't believe it, but I am very happy."

A native of Durango, Mexico, Brenda currently works for Scentsy, packing orders for 10-hour shifts. When she's not working, she dedicates much of her time to her children, Anthony, age 4, and Larry, age 2, by taking them to the park and playing games. Brenda is most thrilled that the Habitat home will provide her two sons with the opportunity to have their own rooms and a chance to play freely outside. In addition to becoming a homeowner, Brenda aspires to attend college in the near future so she can bring her education in line with her passions, providing a better future for her children.

Brenda's gratitude shines bright as she exclaims, "Thank you for all of the volunteers working alongside me on my new home. I really appreciate it very much. I am very happy to be a part of Habitat. Thank you again."

feast

Moveable Feast is in need of drivers Monday through Friday, especially Fridays, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm to deliver meals. Rev. Dalene Vasbinder and her husband do this once a month. If you are interested in volunteering, see Dalene.

What is Moveable Feast? From their website: "Moveable Feast Lexington prepares and delivers to the door a hot, nutritious meal five days a week to low-income people in Lexington-Fayette County who have HIV/AIDS or those under Hospice care. They also feed their caregivers and dependent children."

Mission Behind Bars and Beyond Mentor - Would you like to volunteer to be a mentor? For more information about Mission Behind Bars and Beyond, go to www.missionbehindbarsandbeyond.org or on Facebook at Friends of Mission Behind Bars and Beyond.

Worshipping with at New Life In Christ - New Life in Christ Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a congregation inside the Diersen House, a halfway house for women, located in Louisville, Kentucky. Some of the women have been previously incarcerated and the Diersen House is a next step before re-entry back into full society. Some of the women have been sentenced to serve their time not in prison, but in the Diersen House.

Each Tuesday evening, members and pastors from Disciples congregations throughout Kentucky come to join in and lead worship.

Woodland members will be invited to join Dalene when she preaches at the Diersen House. Groups attended worship over the past years and it was a very powerful and humble experience. If you would like to join Dalene, let her know.

Next Date for Worship:

Yarn Donations - Inmates at FMC, Lexington's minimum security facility, make items such as hats, gloves, scarves, stuffed animals, etc., out of donated yard and distribute them to agencies like The Salvation Army and nursing homes. Individuals, churches, and other organizations donate excess yard for them to do their projects, however, they are short of yarn. Please consider donating yarn to the inmates. Bring your yard to Woodland and we will make sure FMC receives the yard.

H.U.G.S. OFERING - Annually Woodland members collect Hats, Underwear, Gloves and Socks (H.U.G.S.) each year. This offering is donated to the HOPE Center for the homeless. Any monetary gifts are used to purchase these items.

Once a Month Meal at Maxwell - Woodland continues to participate in feeding the homeless on the fourth Thursday of the month at Maxwell Presbyterian Church. If you wish to volunteer for this ministry, please see Steve Coon for more details.

Foster Family Services – A number of families in our congregation have grown through fostering and adoption, and we honor Lexington’s foster families through Christmas giving and other initiatives.

Fight Hunter in Lexington - Your donation of food items helps Woodland, in partnership with God's Pantry, fight hunger in our community. Please consider bringing a packaged food item or canned goods for our Sunday offering.

This is a great ministry to raise awareness that hunger is a real problem for many people and then to put awareness into action raising money to combat hunger globally and locally (25% of the donations raised go to our local God's Pantry). Please support our team at the walk with your donation by going to Woodland Team. Your support is appreciated!

Church World Service Blanket Fund - We collect funds to help people in need around the world. http://www.cwsglobal.org/get-involved/blankets-plus/.
